Tuol Sleng

Tuol Sleng, a painful symbol to remember.

A school turned prison. A prison that became death camps. A camp turned into a museum. Some sadly historic places are there to remind us of what human has done and not to repeat this. Tuol Sleng is a place to visit for any traveller (teenager or adult, not recommended for children). Why? Beyond the emotional aspect, this makes it possible to understand the mentality of Cambodians (and the taboo - still current - in the Khmer diaspora in France and Europe), to understand the current situation of the country and to know the history of the country. No trip to Cambodia would be complete without Tuol Sleng's visit.

For whom?

- For all travellers who want to learn more about Khmer culture

- To understand a subject that is still taboo in Cambodian families

Good to know

The excellent film "First they killed my father" - internationally awarded and validated by the Cambodians who saw it - is a very good way to understand what happened during this troubled period in history. To see before you come to explore the country, or when you return.
